¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ this course

On this Digital Methods and Computational Modelling Chemistry bachelor’s course, you’ll develop the skills needed by chemists working in future-focused industries.

This degree combines traditional chemistry with computational techniques. Data science, AI and machine learning are helping scientists make discoveries and run experiments faster and at a lower cost.

¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ is one of only a few UK universities where you can study this subject at degree level. It’s an emerging specialism that’s increasingly valued by employers.

On this Digital Methods and Computational Modelling Chemistry course you’ll gain chemical knowledge and computing skills to join this fast-growing field.  

You don’t need any previous computing experience. Your programming training will be tailored to your level. By the time you graduate you’ll be able to:  

  • write your own programs
  • use progressive software to analyse big data
  • explore digital simulations of molecules in high detail

You’ll study in bright, spacious and modern refurbished chemistry laboratories. You’ll also train in the specific requirements of high-performance computing.  

When you graduate, you'll have a strong foundation in chemistry and a clear understanding of how computation and data management can make a positive impact.

You’ll learn from academics who use AI and digital modelling to benefit society. For example, by improving renewable energy technologies and supporting research into disease treatment. They’ll share their expertise and enthusiasm with you in lectures and seminars.

During your individual project, you’ll take part in their research. You’ll also benefit from ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ’s leading role in the UK’s Alchemy - AI for Chemistry Network which gives you access to seminars with top data and computer scientists.

Transfer to an MChem course 

All our chemistry degrees share core modules in the first and second year. This means you can choose to transfer to an MChem course at the end of year 2.
