Charlotte is also Non-Executive Director at the UK National Commission for UNESCO and advises the UK Government on 3 UNESCO Conventions: The 1970 Convention, The 1954 Hague Convention and its Two Protocols and the 2003 Convention.
She is a UNESCO trained facilitator of the 2003 Convention () and a Member of Blue Shield's Living Heritage Committee

Her new AHRC/IAA research (April 2026- April 2027) is a secondment to the Department of Culture Media and Sports (DCMS) to investigate the economic potential of the UK ratification of UNESCO's 2003 Convention
Charlotte Joy is a social anthropologist with a specialist interest in the politics of heritage management. She has done her research in Djenné, Mali, at UNESCO in Paris and at the International Criminal Court in the Hague. She has published two book 'The Politics of Heritage Management in Mali' (2012) and 'Heritage Justice' (2020)
