Kwame Phillips is Associate Professor of Critical Media Practices at the Winchester School of Art, specialising in sensory media production, mixtape scholarship and critical media studies. Phillips’ work uses multimodal and experimental methodologies, often grounded in remix and repurposing, to focus on marronage, race, and social justice. His recent work includes the multi-sensorial project, Echoes of Care 003 (with Dr L. Gre and Olivia Ema), currently installed at the John Hansard Gallery in ��ɫ��Ƶ, the sound art work “…of a great Catastrophe: A Mixtape for the Nakba” and the chapter “’Where’s that gotten us?’- Horace Ové’s Pressure and the Fallacy of Respectability” in (EUP 2026).

He is co-author (with Dr. Shana Redmond) of the chapter “‘The People Who Keep on Going’: A Radical Listening Party” in The Futures of Black Radicalism (Verso 2017). He is also co-creator (with Dr. Debra Vidali) of the multi-sensorial sound art work, “: Your Questions Answered by Pioneering Zambian Talk Show Host David Yumba (1923-1990),” and the resultant co-authored article, “Ethnographic Installation and ‘the Archive’: Re/Dislocation, Reverberation, and Aspiration” in the “Bodies of Archives/Archival Bodies” special issue of Visual Anthropology Review.

He is co-director of the Critical Infrastructures and Image Politics research group (), Culture, Place and Inequality lead for the ��ɫ��Ƶ Institute for Arts and Humanities (SIAH), board member for the Centre for Music Education and Social Justice, and co-editor in chief of the journal.
