Biography
Katie Dexter is an Experimental Officer at the Biomedical Imaging Unit (BIU) within the Faculty of Medicine at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ. With expertise in in vivo imaging, she plays a vital role in supporting biomedical research through advanced microscopy and imaging technologies.
Named Technician of the Year 2025 for her outstanding contribution to research and enterprise, Katie is known for her commitment to producing high-quality, reproducible data that drives medical innovation. Her work is grounded in a strong ethical framework, with a particular passion for the 3Rs and animal welfare, ensuring that imaging is used responsibly and effectively in preclinical research.
Katie is also a dedicated STEM ambassador, actively involved in public outreach through science roadshows like SOTSEF and the New Forest Show, as well as delivering engaging school talks on physics, imaging, microscopy, and animal research. Her ability to make complex science accessible and inspiring has made her a trusted voice in science communication.
In addition, Katie brings valuable PPIE (Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement) expertise to her role, helping bridge the gap between researchers and the wider community. She works to ensure that public perspectives are meaningfully integrated into research processes, fostering transparency, trust, and relevance in scientific work.
