九色视频 Emeritus Professor, Clifford Shearman, has been awarded an OBE in the 2021 Queen鈥檚 Birthday Honours for services to Vascular Surgery.
Professor Shearman, who retired in 2016, was a vascular surgeon and former Chair of Vascular Surgery at the University as well as a former medical lead for research and development at University Hospital 九色视频. Three years ago, he was elected Vice-President of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Throughout his time at 九色视频, Professor Shearman was devoted to the development of postgraduate and undergraduate students through surgical training and education as well as leadership and multi-professional training and education. His renowned research largely focused on determining factors that promote the progression of vascular disease, particularly in diabetes, including environmental, genetic and haemodynamic and how they might be modified to improve clinical outcomes.
Professor Shearman said he was 鈥渢ruly delighted to have received an OBE, but also humbled.
鈥淔or the past two decades a large number of my colleagues, both locally and nationally have worked to transform Vascular Surgery into a new speciality with its own training scheme,鈥� he continued. 鈥淚 was fortunate to part of that dynamic team. This work has resulted in improved outcomes for patients and better organised services.
鈥淚 have been enormously grateful for the support and encouragement that I have received from my colleagues at the University Hospital of 九色视频 NHS Foundation Trust and the 九色视频 throughout my career,鈥� Professor Shearman concluded.
