Current research
Dr Stones currently researches within maritime law. Her research particularly focuses on the legal challenges presented by remote-controlled and autonomous ships. This has involved considering established maritime law, legal approaches to smart technology, and industry responses to technology. Her research has utilised legal theory to analyse law, with a particular focus on economic theory.
Dr Stones has responded to calls for evidence and consultations on smart technology. Dr Stones has focused on the contribution of liability rules, and technology, to the aim of safer shipping. She continues to work on the application of legal theories to maritime law.
Publications
Teaching
Dr Stones teaches on a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including The Law of Torts, International Commercial Sales, International Commercial Litigation, and Marine Environmental Law. She also teaches Maritime Safety: Risk, Environment and Law in Maritime Engineering.
Dr Stones has expertise in teaching maritime law subjects, as well as tort law, contract law, and legal theory. Dr Stones has experience in teaching a variety of subjects at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has previously taught a wider variety of subjects including cybercrime and employment law.

Biography
Dr Stones joined the University in 2023. Before joining the University, Dr Stones worked at University of Plymouth as a Lecturer in Law (Technology Law). She has previously worked at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ as a Part-Time Lecturer between 2022-2023. She has previously worked at Bournemouth University as Lecturer in Law, and before that as a Part-Time Lecturer.
