Module overview

Meeting global energy demands sustainably is one of the defining engineering challenges of our time. Renewable energy technologies that harness wind, waves and tidal flows are playing an increasingly important role in the transition to low-carbon energy systems. In this module, you will investigate how energy can be extracted from atmospheric and ocean processes using modern engineering technologies. You will develop the analytical skills needed to evaluate renewable energy devices and large-scale energy developments, considering efficiency, cost-effectiveness, installation requirements and long-term performance in marine environments. Design studies and laboratory activities will help you connect engineering theory with practical renewable energy applications. By the end of the module, you will be able to assess renewable energy technologies and evaluate their contribution to future energy systems. The module supports further study and careers in offshore renewable energy, sustainable engineering and energy system design.
