, the EU Research and Innovation programme, has awarded the University €930,000 for the SOLUTION project which develops lubricants used in industry.

Satellites and space probes use lubricants to minimise friction in a very harsh environment. They are also used in cars to lower friction in bearings, as well as transmission, and to reduce fuel consumption.
SOLUTION is coordinated by , an Associate Professor in Coatings and Nanotribology in the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment.
The project, which combines state-of-the-art research with training and education of PhD students, will have its home at the National Centre for Advanced Tribology () in ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ.
