The volume of data and information that the University generates and publishes is growing at an ever increasing pace. At the same time, the way that we manage and curate this information to ensure that it is accessible, useful and accurate is coming under greater scrutiny and regulation.
It has therefore been decided that a new, senior role of Chief Information Officer (CIO) will be established to take responsibility for the focused, strategic management of our data and information as well as the ICT that is needed to deliver the University’s strategic objectives.
To help develop the role has been seconded to this position for an initial period of six months starting on 1 August 2015. Simon has extensive experience in the field of data management and leadership both as an academic and as a consultant to industry. To enable him to undertake this new role Professor Cox will be standing down as Associate Dean Enterprise of the Faculty of Engineering and the Environment and handing over some of his other responsibilities for the time being.
The CIO will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer, Steve White, who commented:

Professor Cox added:
