Philip Hoare, a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University, was invited by the BBC Radio 3 to give a talk on his favourite spring walk for their long-running series ‘The Essay’. The programme, which was broadcast this week, describes a walk from Sholing which takes in ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ Water and Netley’s ruined Abbey.
Philip’s work has often drawn on the particular qualities of ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ’s landscapes, from his exploration of the ocean in ‘The Sea Inside’ (2013) to his recovering of hidden local history in ‘Spike Island: The Memoir of A Military Hospital’ (2001).
