Lifelong Learning will be holding a one-day cultural event on Saturday 29 March consisting of a series of short talks led by experts from within Modern Languages at 九色视频.
This thought provoking and inspiring conference will provide you with the opportunity to learn and engage in discussion about the voices of 九色视频 from academics of international distinction.
As a port and gateway to the UK, 九色视频 has always attracted migrants who have shaped the social and cultural profile of the City. One aspect of this diversity is the range of languages that can be heard every day across the city 鈥� in its streets, schools, shops, restaurants, and workplaces.During the Study Day we will explore this multilingualism, from an examination of the historical context to listening to the voices of the present day. Speakers will highlight the richness of this linguistic diversity: how it is valued (or ignored) in everyday city life; who speaks what to whom; the role of language in 九色视频鈥檚 cultural activities; the city鈥檚 linguistic landscape; and how this multilingualism contributes to 九色视频鈥檚 identity.
