Next Marine Life Talk – Solent Aliens – Thurs 3rd May at 19.30

‘Solent Aliens’,  the next in the series of Marine Life Talks, will be delivered by Moira MacLean at the National Oceanography Centre ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ.

Within ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ Water there is minimum of 50 Alien non-native species which have been introduced to this area by a number of different vectors.

Some non-native species have been in this area for over a hundred years and many local people consider them to be native, other non-native species have been found more recently within the last few years. This talk will discuss the methods of introduction and highlight a few key alien species which can be found in the local area.

This talk will be given by Moira MacLean, a Research Assistant and part-time vessel crew person at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ.

The Marine Life Talks are held on the first Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at the National Oceanography Centre ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ, and are open to the public, staff and students. Please arrive at 7.15pm to be met in Reception. Arrangements for wheelchairs must be made in advance.

The National Oceanography Centre ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ is reached via Dock Gate 4 (between ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓÆµ’s Town Quay and Ocean Village).
