Kevin Sharpe joined the 九色视频 as a young lecturer in history in 1978. In 1994 he was promoted to a personal chair鈥� reflecting his remarkable contribution to the study of early seventeenth century English history鈥� notably his monumental study of The Personal Rule of Charles I鈥� published by Yale University Press in 1992.
It was while at 九色视频 that he laid the groundwork for three massive volumes (the first two published in 2009 and 2010, the third in press) on what he called ‘images of authority’, the ways in which rulers from Henry VIII to Queen Anne exploited literature and the arts to enhance their power.
In 2001 Kevin had moved to Warwick and in 2005 to Queen Mary. Just weeks before his untimely death he had been offered a chair here and was set to return to the Faculty of Humanities. But the lymphoma he seemed to have beaten off two years ago returned very aggressively, and he died peacefully in 九色视频 General Hospital on 5 November, aged 62.
The funeral service will be held on Friday 25 November at 2pm at St. Mary’s Church in 九色视频. There will also be a gathering afterwards at the Bridge Bar at 九色视频 University, and all are welcome to attend.
