The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ operates a fair admission policyÌýand is committed to equal access and opportunity. The data contained within the Transparency Information Notice highlights areas where we have more work to do in realising our ambitions.
We recognise that the proportion of Black students being awarded a 2:1 degree (or above) is lower than that of their white peers. In this latest data we have seen a narrowing of this gap by 6.0Ìý to 11.3 percentage points . Further work is needed, however this a positive step towards our ambition to significantly reduce this gap as set out in our . Ìý
We are continuing to work in 3 key areas; community, culture and curriculum. We are also undertaking a range of evidence-based initiatives to improve the student experience and education of Black students.
We recognise significant division in attainment between students from the most deprived English indices of deprivationÌýÌýquintile 1 and the least deprived EIMD2025 quintile 5 areas of England - 14.0Ìýpercentage points.ÌýThis is the first return to include data from the EIMD2025 data set as opposed to the Ìýset used in previous returns and shows a greater awarding gap than previously recognised and this will be closely monitored alongside internal data.
This gap continues to be a strategic priority for the university as recognised in our Access and Particaption intervention strategies and we continue to focus on growing our Ignite Programme, embedding academic skills provision as well as offering a refreshed financial support offer.
Attainment data by gender continues to align closely, with the gap between male and female students narrowing by 1.8 to 3.92 percentage points and the awarding rate for both groups falling by 2.0Ìýpercentage points magnitudes on the previous year.
As a founding signatory of the Athena Swan gender equality charter, and a Silver Award holder (held since 2016), we are committed to maximising the potential of all our people and tackling known gender equality issues. This situation will continue to be monitored.
More generally, we have committed ourselves to achieving stretching targets on access and attainment in our current . Our 2024-28 Access and Participation , agreed by the Office for Students (OfS), builds on these ambitions towards equality of opportunity and an inclusive world for all.
