Title: Dissipating faster than light
Abstract: Back in 1940, Eckart attempted to make Navier–Stokes hydrodynamics compatible with Einstein's theory of special relativity. It didn't age well. ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ 40 years later, physicists admitted defeat and embraced a new contender: Israel–Stewart theory. Another 40 years roll by, and here we are, realizing that this second attempt can also fail us, sometimes. It looks like dissipation has been playing a prank on Einstein himself. What is happening?
