Fred Smith 1934-2019
Emeritus Professor Fred Smith passed away in December 2019. Fred was a big part of the statistical community in the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, which he joined in 1968. He was active in the fields of survey sampling, and time series, and was President of the Royal Statistical Society from 1991-93. He was an inspirational teacher, and always willing to discuss the way that the methods worked. Although he retired some time ago, he was a regular visitor to the university for special seminars.
