¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ experts elected to Academy of Social Sciences
Experts from the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ have spoken of their delight after being elected to the Academy of Social Sciences.
Professor Chris Armstrong and Professor Jason Reifler were named fellows for their contributions to research that addresses the societal challenges facing the UK today.
They join a cohort of more than 1,750 social scientists with expertise in democracy, environmental sustainability and social inequality, among other areas.
Professor of Political Theory Chris Armstrong is a renowned author who has worked at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ since 2005, writing about global justice and environmental conservation.
He said: "I believe the social sciences have a vital role in responding to contemporary global challenges, and I'm delighted that my own part in that has been recognised with this fellowship.
“The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ continues to be a great place from which to grapple with these challenges, from governing the ocean to biodiversity conservation to challenges of global justice."
The Academy of Social Sciences is an acclaimed body of academics, practitioners and learned societies.
More than 70 new fellows have been elected this year from 38 UK organisations and universities.
Professor of Politics and International Relations Jason Reifler specialises in political behaviour and public opinion.
He is a regular media commentator during UK elections speaking about the challenges of tackling misinformation.
Prof Reifler called the Academy of Social Sciences award a real honour, adding: "Understanding how to address the problem of misinformation and how people reason about politics, foreign policy, and electoral institutions has never mattered more.
"Strengthening democracy means investing in social science research and the next generation of scholars who can push these themes forward.
"I feel incredibly fortunate that I get to do this work at ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ where there is a strong intellectual community and institutional support for this important research."
