Professor Brian Schmidt will be a Diamond Jubilee International Visiting Fellow at the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ from 2014 to 2017.

Visiting Fellow and Host

Fellow: Professor Brian Schmidt, The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics, Australian National University

Professor Schmidt was and will take up the position from January 2016.

Host: Dr Mark Sullivan, Physics & Astronomy

Aims of the collaboration

• To conduct ongoing research into type 1a and high redshift superluminous supernova
• To enhance collaboration between the SkyMapper and PESSTO research projects in cosmology and dark energy, which are led by the Fellow and host respectively.
• To facilitate links to several major surveys and experiments, including the Dark Energy Survey (DES)

Fellowship activities in 2015

Professor Schmidt made his first Fellowship visit to the ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ in June 2015.

He will be visiting again in November and activities will include giving the annual STAG public lecture
