The Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) is a renowned institution and has over 50 years' experience delivering high-quality education to engineering students and professionals and is at the forefront of research in many areas of sound and vibration.
These courses present a unique opportunity to learn from and talk to world-class lecturers at the very forefront of their fields. Delegates are encouraged to discuss their problems in and out of class.Ìý The combined experience of the lecturers delivering these courses adds to a combined experience of over half a millennium covering education, research, industry and consultancy.
The course starts by laying out some fundamental principles of noise analysis and then splits into two streams
This course is designed for engineers, consultants, researchers and technical professionals whose work involves noise, vibration or aeroacoustics. It is suitable both for experienced practitioners who want to deepen or broaden their knowledge and for those moving into the field from related areas such as mechanical engineering, aerospace, automotive engineering or the physical sciences.
Participants do not need to be specialists in every topic covered, although a degree-level qualification or equivalent practical experience in engineering, physical science or mathematics is recommended. The course is particularly relevant to anyone involved in designing quieter products, investigating noise problems or developing practical noise-control solutions.

Participants will leave with a stronger understanding of how noise is generated, measured and controlled, together with practical methods you can apply in their own work. Since its foundation in 1963, the ISVR has become widely acknowledged as one of the world’s foremost centres for the study of sound and vibration phenomena. Its achievements have been based upon success in three key areas:
The ISVR is unique in its ability to offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes and continuing professional development in a comprehensive range of subjects related to sound and vibration. Short courses are offered to industry on a regular basis, with tailor-made options available on request.
The ISVR is a centre for postgraduate and postdoctoral research in most areas related to sound and vibration. It has a number of research groups covering an extensive range of subjects, including acoustics, structural dynamics, human sciences, audiology, fluid dynamics, vehicle dynamics, signal processing, active noise and vibration control and instrumentation.
The ISVR is a centre for putting research into practice. ISVR Consulting provides expertise in a wide range of topics, including environmental, and industrial noise and vibration, hearing, and vibration-induced injury assessment and conservation, design, vehicle and engine design and refinement (NVH). The unit operates a range of facilities including large anechoic and reverberation chambers, a progressive wave tube, and a blast wave generator, and a blast wave generator. It can also call upon the expertise of the ISVR academic staff for specialist applications.
Our extensive facilities include one of the largest anechoic chambers in the country, , Human Factors Research Unit (HFRU) , 6-Axis Motion Simulator , Doak lab and VAAE , to mention a few.
