Impact Measuring Toolkit for Museums

Science museums often go unnoticed for their educational contributions because research in those settings is rare. That’s where we have come in. We have partnered with the Winchester Science Centre to revolutionize the way we measure the impact of informal science learning. Together, we have diagnosed, acted, and reflected on practical issues identified by museum educators to develop an Impact Measuring Toolkit. With this toolkit, practitioners can inform their instruction and provide much-needed evidence to stakeholders. Let’s empower science museums and highlight the valuable role they play in shaping our knowledge and showcase their important contributions!

Building on this work, we have taken our approach beyond museums to address the wider challenge of evidencing impact in informal learning. Working alongside science centres, festivals and pop-up outreach events, we adapted the original toolkit to develop a new practical evaluation guide. With this resource, practitioners can capture meaningful learning, reflect on practice and provide clear evidence of impact to stakeholders.
