Media Production Services

We provide a range of services to the University.ÌýThe list below gives a flavour of the work we can do with you.

Our core remit is to produce teaching and blended learning content directly for our students.

There are additional services we regularly carry out to support research, promotional activities, or outreach. These additional services will often include a fee. Please contact us for further information and if you would like a quote.

Video production

WeÌýcan work with you to produce engaging and effective video content. We manage the end-to-end process for you, from pre-production planning, scripting and consent through to production and post-production.Ìý We can work with you on small one-off media assets or large multi-day, multi-output projects.

Costs will vary depending on several factors which we will identify with you during the scoping process.

Below are some examples of interview videos that progress from quick and simple, to more polished (and a bit longer to produce).

  • Ìý(podcast clip).ÌýThis video is a single location, filmed in one long take and then simply edited (with no cutaways or additional material used over the main interview).
  • . Simple seated interview with inter-titles (stating the questions) and with simple cutaways and text overlays.
  • .ÌýAn interview with a range of participants in different locations, featuring dynamic cutaways and music.

Additional video materials:

  • (two-person ‘role play’ scenario). A scenario where two people ‘role model’ a particular interaction. This was filmed with 3 cameras and edited into this simple narrative.
  • Ìý(lab demonstration).ÌýA video that showcases a lab set up/demonstration.
  • Ìý(promotional video). A promotional video for the Science and Engineering Day festival held at the university. This was shot with multiple people, using multiple cameras and edited to music.

Animation and motion graphics

Animation requires more time in pre-production than anything else we do. A key part of the project involves working with you to agree the visual storyboards.ÌýThe creation of the video starts when the storyboard has been perfected and signed off.

The cost for animation varies depending on a number of factors, the examples below will give you a flavour of past projects, again starting with more simple and quick animations and working up to more complex creations:

  • .ÌýA simple animation that doesn’t contain too many elements or much motion. The voice over does most of the storytelling for this animation.
  • . A more complex animation with many more graphical elements that needed creating and more complex animation.
  • .ÌýAn animation with lots of elements and complex transition effects.

We create interactive content using Articulate Storyline. Storyline is a very flexible authoring tool and can be hosted on web servers, Edshare and embedded into Blackboard. Types of interactive content can vary in complexity, below are some examples of previous work created by the media team.

  • Example 1:
    • Pre-production - 2.5 days. This includes concept and storyboard
    • Asset creation - 1.5 days. Video and photo production
    • Production - 10 days. Using Articulate Storyline to create interactive content and testing
    • Post production - 3 days. Video editing
  • Example 2:
    • Pre-production - 1 day. Create storyboard
    • Asset creation - 1 day. Collate and edit photographs
    • Production - 7 days. Using Articulate Storyline to create interactive content
    • Post production - 1 day. Testing and making final adjustments
  • Example 3:
    • Pre-production - 1 day. Create storyboard
    • Asset creation - 1 day.ÌýTake photographs, record audio, source music
    • Production -Ìý3 days. Using Articulate Storyline to create interactive content and testing

Interactive images, videos and 360 media

We have created a number of interactive 360 virtual experiences (both video and still images). These can be viewed in a browser or on a virtual reality headset.

Here are a few projects we have been involved in.

  • . This is a simple, single room virtual tour with some text and photographic hotspot elements. It is a single 360 photo with hotspots added on top.
  • (part of the Zepler Institute). This is a much more comprehensive virtual tour that stitches multiple 360 photos of related locations together and adds more hotspots (as well as a floorplan for easier navigation). It is part of a larger tour of the whole Zepler Facility.
  • Ìý(Note: this 360 is not IE compatible, please use Chrome to view this resource.) Designed to be viewed on a VR headset this video puts you in the middle of a Trauma simulation, showcasing how medics respond to an accident.
