S3RI wins Office for National Statistics contract
A team led by Professor Paul Smith of the Dept of Social Statistics & Demography has won the next phase of a contract to provide research consultancy in statistical methodology (and related areas) to the Office for National Statistics. The latest phase runs Apr 2021 – Sep 2022 and funds most of a post-doc post to support delivery of particular projects. The remainder of the funding pays for the use of expert staff from S3RI.
The ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ has an excellent track record in providing statistical methodology services to the ONS – 2020 is the 25th anniversary of the first such contract and over this period this work has been worth around £2.5m (or rather more if expressed in today's prices). It also seems right to use this opportunity for a big thank you to all the people who have supported the contract over that time.

Professor Paul Smith
Paul Smith joined ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ Statistical Sciences Research Institute (S3RI) and the Dept of Social Statistics & Demography in September 2014 and is now Professor of Official Statistics, with a particular interest in sampling, estimation and other statistical methods applied to government statistics. He was appointed as Director of S3RI from the beginning of 2021.
