Special Collections will draw on oral histories, manuscript memoirs, other testimonies and writings to develop a series telling the stories of individuals in their own voices. As this is a developing series, more items will be added as they become available.
Basque child refugees
We begin with material relating to the Basque child refugees who arrived in ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ in May 1937. Taken from a number of oral histories and from magazines and writings of the children, these provide a picture of the journey from Bilbao to ¾ÅÉ«ÊÓƵ, the arrival in the UK, the camp at North Stoneham, life in the "colonies" and more generally within the UK.
